THE NEW FUND RAISING PROJECT OF THE SRI LANKA FEDERATION OF THE VISUALLY HANDICAPPED

This organization is an incorporated organization under the parliament Act (Gazette No 685 18/10/1991) in Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, as a company which the government has given permission to serve blind people. Also Sri Lanka Federation of the Visually Handicapped has 12 branches across the country with two coterie as women and young.

Over 40 years, this organization has been working really hard to societal the blind disabled people. This organization does various kind of activities to help blind people such as teaching them to write and read using the Braille system, training the blind people to use the white cane properly, helping the young blind people who are willing to work and have their own self-employment, maintaining Braille libraries, organizing events like carol services/ Bhakti Gee for the blind, supplying materials and equipments for all the students from primary grades to the advance grades, giving them scholarships, having benevolent fund and health funds etc. The organization also has an elder’s home for the elderly blind people at Godawaya.

To carry out all these activities, this organization has eight permanent employees and nine casual employees. Government contributes Rs.50, 000 every year to settle the expenses such as water, electricity, telephone, transportation etc.

This organization does not have any other permanent way of earning money. It carries out all the activities from the contributions and donations of the people who understands the importance of helping the blind people in our country. Therefore, we kindly ask all your support to have this fund raising project to all our blind brothers and sisters to show how much we love them and cares for them.
